Wine Bar Hopping: Parigo

I loooove a wine bar that also has a full menu because I enjoy food almost as much as wine. (And because food is often a necessity when you’re drinking!)

San Francisco’s Parigo, located in the Marina, has it all… international wines, a great pairing menu, an adorable back patio, a friendly staff, AND great deals.

At Parigo (which translates to “pairing”), Wine Director Sarah Trubnick creates ever-changing lists of unique, small-production wines from around the globe, and then Executive Chef Manuel Hewitt creates dishes that pair perfectly. Doing it this way really showcases the wine to a higher degree, allowing it to shine alongside an artfully-crafted dish.

I went to Parigo with my girlfriend Jamie and we sampled the (delicious!) Deep Fried Goat Cheese with Cranberry Rosemary Aioli – the suggested pairing was the Lime Rock Sauvignon Blanc, luckily included in my “flight for sauvignon blanc lovers.” We also had a basket of French Fries sprinkled with herbs de Provence – which were just heavenly. Because those were on the happy hour menu, they didn’t have a pairing assigned.

Jamie and I plan to call and order many of the Fried Goat Cheese appetizers to pick up for our next book club! I’ll be dreaming about those for months… (didn’t get a photo because we ate them too quickly!)

I also can’t wait to go back and try their full dinner menu. The three-course meal paired with wines from the South of France sounds amazing.
